Your Recertification Process is Now Easier and Faster
PTCB has streamlined the recertification process so CPhTs can renew in minutes. To take advantage of the new process, CPhTs must create an NABP e-Profile before their next recertification deadline. PTCB requires all CPhTs to set up an e-Profile no later than October 2019. Having an NABP e-Profile allows CPhTs to enter and track their completed continuing education (CE) hours in CPE Monitor, a central database.

PTCB Will Launch Advanced CPhT (CPhT-Adv) and Five Assessment-Based Certificate Programs
PTCB will expand its credentialing programs by adding five assessment-based certificate programs for advanced technician roles, and an Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT-Adv) credential. The new assessment-based certificate programs will recognize the important contributions pharmacy technicians make to advance medication safety. Candidates seeking to be a CPhT-Adv will be required to have earned at least four of the new certificates to be eligible.

PTCB Awards Medication Safety Grants for Technician Programs in Four States
PTCB has awarded grants to four state pharmacy associations in Connecticut, Iowa, North Dakota, and Tennessee to support projects that promote medication safety and advance the role of pharmacy technicians. The grants were made through PTCB’s new Partnership Funds Program launched in March to support selected projects of the 72 state pharmacy associations that participate in PTCB’s State Associate Program.

Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technicians® Advance Pharmacy Safety: More Than 550 Have Earned their CSPT® Credential
More than 550 pharmacy technicians have completed all steps to earn their CSPT® Certification, and pharmacists report that CSPT-Certified technicians are valuable team members who advance safety and compliance with sterile compounding standards. CSPT Certification demonstrates a technician’s knowledge and skill in preparing medications in a sterile environment to prevent contamination, such as those administered through intravenous injection or infusion.

AAOA Welcomes PTCB as Partner Committed To Educating Pharmacy Community About Prescription Opioid Safety
PTCB is a new partner with Allied Against Opioid Abuse (AAOA), a national education initiative focused on engaging stakeholders in healthcare to address the prescription opioid abuse epidemic. PTCB joins 18 national partners and more than 50 organizations working together to raise awareness among patients, pharmacists, providers, and the public about rights, risks and responsibilities associated with prescription opioids.

Changes are Coming for Initial Applicants in 2020!
Changes Will Not Affect Active PTCB CPhTs

Starting in 2020, PTCB will change its eligibility requirements for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Program and update its Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). PTCB will offer two eligibility pathways for technicians submitting initial certification applications beginning January 1, 2020. One will be completion of a PTCB-recognized education/training program, and the other will be equivalent work experience.
