PTCB has named Diane Halvorson, RPhTech, CPhT, of Fargo, North Dakota, the 2016 PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician of the Year©. Ms. Halvorson has served as a Member of the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy for the past 6 years, including two terms as President of the Board. She is the Lead Pharmacy Technician and recent Interim Pharmacy Manager at Vibra Hospital in Fargo. PTCB Releases New PTCE Practice Tools Featuring First Calculations Practice App 
PTCB has released two new Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (PTCE) practice tools: 1) the updated Official PTCB® Practice Exam; and 2) the Official PTCB® Calculations Practice Questions app, a math practice tool PTCB is offering for the first time, available for iOS and Android. Both tools provide a test experience similar to the actual PTCE. Find them at ptcb.org/practice. Read more and share with people who want to become certified.

Do you know what regulations and requirements affect pharmacy technicians in your state? In other states? Take a look at PTCB’s new interactive map on PTCB's website where you can find a snapshot of pharmacy technician requirements determined by each state board of pharmacy. The map is updated periodically to reflect changes in individual states. View the map.

PTCB in the News: Transforming Technicians - Insights Into Expanding Roles
In an article in Elements Magazine, Miriam A. Mobley Smith, PharmD, FASHP, PTCB Director of Strategic Alliances, talks about pharmacy technicians stepping up to the plate and taking on expanding responsibilities as pharmacists provide more clinical patient services. Pharmacy Technician Stakeholders Conference To Convene in February 
PTCB is collaborating with organizations to help plan an invitational conference to be held in Dallas in February when pharmacy leaders and stakeholders will examine entry-level standards and future roles for pharmacy technicians. The Pharmacy Technician Stakeholders Consensus Conference will bring together stakeholders from across the practice spectrum to recommend how to best ensure technicians are prepared to perform work in a safe and effective manner. REMINDER: Complete Your CE Before Your Application Deadline To Avoid a Late Fee - Recertify On Time! 
CPhTs are required to complete and enter CE hours before submitting their recertification application. If your certification expires on November 30, your Application Deadline is November 1. Be sure to complete your CE and apply before Midnight ET on November 1 to avoid a $25 late fee in addition to the standard $40 recertification fee. If your expiration date is December 31, you will be able to submit your application beginning on November 1 when your Application Window opens; be sure to complete your CE and apply by December 1 to avoid a late fee. PTCB To Receive CPhT Discipline Alerts from NABP Clearinghouse
PTCB will now receive alerts from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) Clearinghouse once they are processed by participating State Boards of Pharmacy. The Clearinghouse is a centralized multi-state database of disciplinary records. These alerts will allow PTCB to investigate the circumstances behind the alerts to determine if the PTCB Code of Conduct has been violated.

National Pharmacy Technician Workforce Survey Examines Technician Roles 
Principal investigators Shane P Desselle, RPh, PhD, FAPhA, and Erin R. Holmes, PhD, conducted a survey of PTCB Certified technicians to better understand pharmacy technician roles, training, job functions, and job satisfaction. The study’s objectives included describing characteristics of CPhTs' job functions in various practice settings, examining methods of training, determining CPhTs’ levels of job satisfaction, and looking at sources of stress. The study was funded by PTCB, the Pharmacy Technician Accreditation Commission, and the Pharmacy Workforce Center. View the final report.

Northland Association of Pharmacy Technicians Hosts Fall Conference
PTCB Director of Strategic Alliances Miriam Mobley Smith, PharmD, FASHP, was the keynote presenter at the Northland Association of Pharmacy Technicians Fall Conference, October 7-8. The conference offered 10 ACPE-approved CE hours and networking opportunities for CPhTs. This year the conference was open to all CPhTs from across the country.
