PTCB hosted a special twentieth anniversary reception on October 27 to celebrate two decades of advancing patient care and safety. PTCB welcomed pharmacy leaders, employers, educators, PTCB staff, and local 20-year CPhTs to the festive event. A high point of the evening was a special ceremony to honor Hortense Jones, the 2015 PTCB CPhT of the Year, when PTCB Executive Director and CEO Everett B. ! DID YOU KNOW? Some CE Requirements Will Change in 2016
This is a reminder that effective January 1, 2016, PTCB will implement a change in CE recertification requirements for CPhTs that reduces the allowable number of CE hours earned via college/university courses from 15 to 10. Beginning in 2016, a maximum of 10 of your 20 CE hours may be earned by completing a relevant college course with a grade of 'C' or better. Read more

IMPORTANT: Check Your NABP e-Profile in CPE Monitor; Include Your PTCB Certification Number
The CPE Monitor is a national, collaborative effort by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education that allows pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to track their completed CPE credits in a central system. PTCB is completing the first step in the process of connecting your CPE Monitor account to your PTCB Account. In the future, this connection between the two accounts will allow records of CE hours in your CPE Monitor account to be recorded automatically in your PTCB Account. To help prepare your account for this change, it is important for you to log into your NABP e-profile and access your CPE Monitor account
to be sure your e-Profile is set up correctly, and that it includes your PTCB Certification number. If you have not yet registered for CPE Monitor, please do so today.
NEWS AND RESOURCES Washington, DC Approves Registration Requirements for Pharmacy Technicians
Effective November 20, 2015, the Washington, DC Department of Health has adopted new rules (Chapter 99 of Title 17 regarding business, occupations and professionals) to require registration and to regulate the practice of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy technician trainees. To be eligible for registration, a technician must obtain national certification or complete a Board-approved training program, which includes a Board-approved exam. for future updates. Vermont To Require National Certification in July 2017
The Vermont Board of Pharmacy recently voted to require national certification of pharmacy technicians, beginning July 1, 2017. The new rules require individuals registered with the Vermont Board as certified pharmacy technicians to maintain national certification. If an individual allows their national certification to lapse or does not meet the requirements for continued national certification, they will not be permitted to practice as a registered certified pharmacy technician. Maureen Sparks Named Washington State Pharmacy Technician of the Year
Maureen Sparks, CPhT, was recently named the Washington State Pharmacy Technician of the Year by the Washington State Pharmacy Association. She has been an instructor at Clover Park Technical College's Pharmacy Technician Program in Lakewood, WA for nearly 2 decades. The award comes 4 months after she received the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council's Technician Educator Award. She serves on the Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission and is an accreditation evaluator for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
