NOW AT PTCB How Do Patients Perceive Pharmacy Technicians?
While pharmacy technicians have taken on increasingly important responsibilities, their roles on the pharmacy team often go unrecognized by the patients they serve. PTCB Executive Director and CEO Everett B. McAllister, RPh, MPA, says many patients are unclear or unaware of technicians’ roles. Inpatients may not encounter technicians who work at hospitals, while technicians at community pharmacies are frequently confused for pharmacists, he explains. If Your Certification Expires July 31, Apply Now To Recertify
If your certification expires on July 31, 2015, you can apply now to renew your certification. To ensure adequate time for processing, apply by July 1. To get started, log into your PTCB account. Any CE hours you earn after January 1, 2015 must be in pharmacy technician-specific subject matter. One hour of your 20 CE hours must be in pharmacy law and 1 hour must be in patient safety (the ACPE Policy and Procedures Manual’s topic designation 05). You may earn a maximum of 15 hours by completing a relevant college course with a grade of 'C' or better; and a maximum of 5 hours by completing in-service projects. , obtain your NABP e-Profile ID, and share your ID number with each of your CE providers. The CPE Monitor is a national, collaborative effort by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) that allows pharmacists and technicians to track completed CPE credits in a central system. At this time, we do not require technicians to submit your CPE Monitor IDs to PTCB. All technicians are still required to manually enter their CE credits into their PTCB Account in order to recertify. Technician-Specific CEs Available By Subscription
