Beginning in 2015, CE hours earned by CPhTs must be pharmacy technician-specific ('T-specific') to be acceptable for recertification. PTCB has also reduced the number of allowable 'in-service' CE hours from 10 to 5, starting in 2015. PTCB's new requirements are part of the Certification Program changes PTCB announced in early 2013 to advance pharmacy technician qualifications by elevating PTCB's standards for certification and recertification. The revised CE requirements are meant to ensure that CPhTs are continually educated through programs specific to the knowledge required in today's pharmacy settings. View the fact sheet
PTCB ON THE ROAD Attend Your State Pharmacy Association Meeting
CPhTs often ask us what they can do for their profession. One of our suggestions is to attend state pharmacy association meetings and encourage other CPhTs to do the same. These gatherings present excellent opportunities to network with fellow CPhTs who are committed to their careers, and at the same time earn required CEs. PTCB enjoys participating frequently in these state conferences when we have the chance to meet and talk with many dedicated and engaged technicians across the US.
In February, PTCB attended the Midwest Pharmacy Expo in Des Moines, IA where pharmacists and more than 50 pharmacy technicians from South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Missouri gathered for CE and networking opportunities. PTCB learned a lot about new and expanding responsibilities for CPhTs, including the roles of community outreach technicians within large retailers.
PTCB attended the Michigan Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting in Detroit, February 27-March 1. Michigan recently passed a law requiring pharmacy technicians to be licensed by June 30, 2015. The technician turnout at this meeting was very high. PTCB gave a presentation alongside Michigan’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. During the sessions, PTCB had the opportunity to meet CPhTs in new and expanded roles, such as quality assurance manager and financial reimbursement specialist. Coming Up
PTCB Was There!
YOU ASK. WE ANSWER. Your Question:
I faxed the documentation for my recertification audit to PTCB and I have not heard back. What happened? PTCB’s Answer:
Due to the large number of faxes received daily, PTCB does not verify receipt of your faxed audit documentation. It can take up to four weeks for application processing. If four weeks have passed, and you believe that your audit documentation was not successfully sent, please fax it again to 202-888-1699 or you may email the documentation to email@example.com. Recertification applications, including those selected for audit, are processed in the order they are received. You can view the status of your application in your PTCB Account
by logging in and looking under the Certification Management section on the main page of your account.
CE UPDATE PTCB does not recommend or endorse specific educational or CE courses or materials for pharmacy technicians; however, PTCB does share examples of CE resources for informational purposes only. Resources shared are in no way authored, supported, sponsored, owned, or endorsed by PTCB.
