For pharmacy technicians dedicated to patient care
WASHINGTON, DC- PTCB Executive Director & CEO Everett B. McAllister, RPh, MPA, together with the PTCB Board of Governors, announce the development of an advanced certification program for pharmacy technicians.
Since PTCB's inception in 1995, the organization has certified over 465,000 pharmacy technicians. The new program will further PTCB's mission to advance patient care by developing and maintaining national certification programs for pharmacy technicians.
"We are at a tipping point in the pharmacy profession and PTCB is pleased to provide pharmacy technicians with a credential that signals an advanced level of knowledge, training, and experience," stated Mr. McAllister. "The pharmacy profession is undergoing significant change and this advanced certification program will empower qualified technicians to assume increased responsibility, thereby allowing pharmacists to spend more time providing direct patient care and improving patient outcomes."
Development of the new program is consistent with recommendations from the C.R.E.S.T. Initiative sponsored by PTCB. The recommendations originated during the C.R.E.S.T. Summit in February 2011 attended by pharmacists, Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs), educators, major employers, state boards of pharmacy, and representatives from state and national pharmacy organizations.
Further information regarding the new certification program will be released in 2013. For additional information about PTCB, please visit www.ptcb.org.
