, designed for pharmacy technician educational institutions and training programs that provide classroom instruction, position students for employment in the evolving health care system, and prepare individuals to participate in PTCB's national certification program. Once enrolled, Advocate Educators receive a variety of complimentary benefits and resources from PTCB. Offerings include free individual verification of a pharmacy technician's certification status, monthly newsletters, recognition on PTCB's website, discounts on the Official PTCB Practice ExamTM

Revamped PPMI Website Will Help You Create Practice Change
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has renovated and relaunched its Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI) website
. It is easier for users to navigate and offers a richer variety of information and resources than before. The website now includes case studies of ASHP members leading practice change in their institutions as well as webinars and practice spotlights. It also features important member tools, such as the Hospital Self-Assessment, National Dashboard, and the new State Affiliate Tool Kit.
ASHP House of Delegates Approves Professional Policies
The ASHP House of Delegates in June considered a number of vital professional issues
during its 64th annual session, including support for advanced roles for pharmacy technicians. ASHP advocates that all pharmacy technicians should complete an ASHP-accredited training program, be certified by PTCB, and be licensed by State Boards of Pharmacy; further, that beyond those requirements pharmacy technicians working in advanced roles should have additional training and should demonstrate ongoing competencies specific to the tasks to be performed; further, that expansion of pharmacy technician duties into expanded, advanced roles should include consideration of potential risk to patients and that ongoing quality assurance metrics should be established to assure patient safety.
ASHP Foundation Research Grants Now Available
The ASHP Foundation is committed to advancing optimal patient outcomes and to the design and study of safe and effective medication-use systems. To support this effort, the ASHP Foundation is now accepting applications for three research grants that will advance practice by supporting research related to the ASHP/ASHP Foundation PPMI: Pharmacy Resident Practice-Based Research Grant
; PPMI Demonstration Grant
; and the New Investigator Research Grant
. PPMI Demonstration Grant is in its second year of supporting demonstration projects related to the ASHP/ASHP Foundation PPMI. The grants are available in the following research priority areas: Pharmacists’ Roles (up to three $25,000 grants); Pharmacy Technicians and Technology (up to two $25,000 grants); and Pharmacist Education (one $25,000 grant).

Recognizing the valuable role of pharmacy technicians in the health care team, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) is proud to host a special symposium for pharmacy technicians across the globe. The Symposium for Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Workforce will take place October 3–4, 2012 during the FIP Centennial Congress
in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Megan Coder, PTCB Director of Professional Affairs, will be presenting. The session will describe the role of pharmacy technicians across the world and how national legislation, educational content, and the organization of pharmacies and the health care system help and hinder their role.
